ATEMI (WAZA)

Striking Techniques

Modern Judo derives from classical Jiu-Jitsu, where striking techniques are an integral part of the martial art. When practised as a sport, Judo has removed all such techniques. However as a form of self-defence such techniques are included and some specific techniques are preserved in various Kata, (e.g. Kime-no-Kata, Goshin-Jutsu)

KATA

The term Kata refers to the 'model' or 'ideal' form. In Judo Nage-No-Kata contains the model forms of various throwing techniques; the Katame-No-Kata the model forms of ground-work techniques.
