Grip Fighting Strategies
KUMI-KATA
In order to negate an opponent's attacks or overly defensive posture, or to exert dominance prior to throwing, the Judoka needs to fight for a strong and desirable grip.
Once the desired grip is achieved an immediate and decisive attack should follow in order to utilise it.
If not, the Judoka may need to defend it, or attempt to get it again.
In modern competitive Judo, as much time and energy is spent on training in Kumi-Kata as any other aspect of Judo.
